4A molecular sieve is an alkali metal aluminosilicate capable of adsorbing molecules with critical diameters not exceeding 4A, such as H₂O, NH₃, H₂S, SO₂, CO₂, C₂H₅OH, C₂H₆, and C₂H₄. It is widely used for drying gases and liquids, and can also be employed for refining and purifying certain gases or liquids, such as in argon production.
4A molecular sieves can be regenerated using hot, dry gas. Under the influence of the regenerating gas, the sieves desorb adsorbed water, enabling reuse. The degree of regeneration depends on the duration of regeneration and the temperature and humidity of the regenerating gas.
